ETP Plant Manufacturers in India

What is ETP ( Effluent Treatment Plan)

ETP- Effluent treatment plants are manufactured to treat the effluent ( liquid factory waste) before releasing it into the environment.

Every year, the industry processes gallons of liquid waste. Suppose that amount of liquid waste is directly discharged into lakes and rivers. In that case, it can make the environment extremely polluted since it becomes necessary to treat this liquid industrial waste before discharging it into rivers.

Liquid Industrial waste:

Water is used for various purposes in the industry like washing, heat exchanging, cooling, condensing steam and more. The water utilised in the industry cannot be consumed. Almost every industry generates water waste. Discharge of wastewater in open areas is harmful to the environment and people. Industries term this liquid waste as effluent, and it is treated before discharging it.

What is ETP:

An effluent Treatment Plant provides a facility to purify or treat the water waste before discharging it in an open environment. In ETP, physical, biological and chemical processes are involved to remove pollutants from industrial water. It minimises the contaminants in liquid waste to ensure a low impact on the environment and public health.

Parameters standards for ETP:

ETP in industry should adhere to standards of wastewater set by the government.

Below are the parameters and standards listed for ETP

  • pH 5.5-9.0
  • Suspended Solids – 100 mg/l
  • COD – 250 mg/l
  • Total Dissolved Solids – 2100 mg/l
  • Total Ammonical Nitrogen – 50 mg/l
  • BOD 3 Days, 27 0C – 100 mg/l
  • Oil & Grease – 10 mg/l
  • Chloride as Cl – 600 mg/l
  • Sulphate as SO4 – 1000 mg/l
  • Cyanide – 3 mg/l
  • Fluoride – 2 mg/l
  • Lead as pb – 0.1 mg/l
  • Mercury as Hg 0.01mg/l
  • Nickel as Ni 3 mg/l
  • Zinc as Zn 5 mg/l
  • Hexavalent Chromium Cr+6 – 0.1mg/l
  • Total Metal – 10 mg/l

Operations in ETP:

Effluent Treatment Plant can be operated in four different ways. Like:

Introductory: Removes Oils, Greases and solids.

Primary: Removes organic matter, suspended & floating solids.

Secondary: Removal of organic biodegradable matter.

Tertiary: Removal of dissolved and residual suspended solids.

Operation and Maintenance of ETP:

After the establishment of ETP, it needs to be operated by experienced and trained people. Proper maintenance by a skilled person serves the efficiency of the Effluent Treatment Plant. It is important to maintain a proper record of day-to-day troubleshooting of ETP by qualified supervisors and skilled labour.

Staff requirement for ETP operation and maintenance:

Plant Manager:

One should hire a plant manager who is qualified in environmental science or engineering. And having a minimum of three years of experience in handling the same plant.

Plant operators:

A person who passed high school with a science background is eligible for the operator.

Laboratory analyst:

A person who passed a BSC or equivalent degree in chemistry. Should have proper knowledge about all the procedures and chemical changes in ETP during water treatment.

The effluent treatment plant is crucial in lowering the harmful impact on the environment from liquid industrial wastes. The government has strict regulations for companies that produce water waste on a large scale.
